The Himalayan White Pine is a graceful, upright tree with a loosely broad pyramidal form when it is young. It often retains its lower branches. It becomes more wide spreading with pendulous branches as it matures. It has soft, blue green needles that are 6-8 inches long and in bundles of 5. The upper surface of the needle is green with the lower surface being blue white, making them cast a silvery blue color. The cones are cylindrical and 6-12 inches in length and pendulous as shown in the photo. The Himalayan White Pine is also known as the Bhutan Pine. It has a moderate growth rate. It can reach heights of 50-80 ft and spread out to 30-50 feet. It like full sun, moist, well-drained, sandy loam soils. It does not tolerate drought well. It's cold hardy to zone 5.
