The Silver Linden is a beautiful shad tree with light gray bark and fragrant clusters of yellow-white flowers. A deciduous tree that has a pyramidal form when young but develops into an upright silhouette with an oval canopy and often has multiple trunks. It cast a dense shade below, the four to five inch-long dark green leaves are bright silver and fuzzy on their underside making the tree look as if they are shimmering with each little breeze. The leaves turn yellow in the fall before dropping. The Silver Linden can reach 50-70 feet in height and has a width up to 35 feet. It's cold hardy to zone 4.
Recommended Planting Instructions:
Scarification: Soak in hot water for 24 hours. Stratification: Cold stratify for 90 days. Germination: Sow seed 1/8" deep, press seed into soil, cover seed, keep moist. Other: Sporadic germination may occur over a 2-3 year period.
